Sunrise House

the project

Nestled within the South Coast dunes of NSW, Sunrise House was designed and built to make the most of its breathtaking location and magnificent sunrises. Floor-to-ceiling glass draws in the expansive Pacific Ocean views and the interior quickly becomes the exterior with large sliding glazed doors. Sunrise House features off-form concrete finishes, weathered timber flooring, extensive timber joinery and an internal atrium featuring matured palms, which give this home it’s unique coastal feel.

From the timber facade, the interior is quite unexpected with all the off-form concrete used to create some interesting details such as the sunken lounge, fireplace and benchtops. There are many high-tech features in this house including an auto-lock-through smart homes system that controls everything. Clever detailing with aluminium sliding doors maximises the opening sizes. Great attention to detail has been paid to finishes throughout.

This is a complex multi level seaside home of large proportion, on the beachfront, with sea spray issues. A feature was made of vertical timber screening to front and inside return elevations including the front entry. Special attention was applied to concrete formwork which resulted in excellent off form finishes to the dividing walls, ceilings and kitchen benches. The workmanship in installing the stackable sliding window was outstanding.

The number of multiple species of timber and their varied use was amazing. The full height screening planks, feature weathered decking, dressed timber treads, shiplapped ceiling boarding and kitchen cabinetry shone.
